push/pull 1997

Site specific project

North Road, Brighton

exhibition statement:

Push/pull is a central dynamic, a tension between two things, the ‘real’ and the ‘unreal’. It implies a certain ‘suspension of disbelief’ for the viewer. Push/pull represents the strange arena between time and space: the expected and unexpected, often creating a central inertia in the work.

It is always a manipulated version of events; an unexpected twist to a situation. Manipulated reality is the artist’s perogative; to sustain control at all costs.
