East Show 2019

Concept

2019 will be the Anniversary of 30 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Reunification of East and West Germany.

I felt that this would be a good point at which to gather artists together to
celebrate this outstanding moment with work that depicts their own personal outlook of what to them “EAST” actually means-whether that be in terms of architectural influences and the feelings they inspire, more conceptual or philosophical areas, or work that adresses the political ramifications of this divide and its aftermath.

For example: It can be traces that can be seen in the environment, attitudes to nature and the body, resistance, dogmas that leave their mark on or in buildings, spaces, people; attitudes to time and space, “otherness”, language, privacy, fashion, transport and travel, rituals and attitudes to daily life, the home, music; attitudes to money and ownership.

Work can be in any form appropriate; installation, painting/sculpture, photography, etc. I would also like to include spoken word/performance if
possible.

What’s important is that the artists are one of the following: originally from the former East themselves, from the „West“ reflecting on what they experienced from a distance, or “Ex Pats” who live(d) in or experience
what was the former East, reflecting on what they feel about what remains from a past that has moved on.
